Welcome to Melonie Park South

This website is designed to benefit the members of the Melonie Park South (MPS) Homeowners’ Association, as well as to provide information to those interested in our neighborhood. Melonie Park South is one of the most desirable, established sub-divisions in south Lubbock. The development began in the early 1970’s and there are now 375 permanent residential homes in the neighborhood. The homes are primarily brick veneer and range in size from 1800 to 3500 square feet. In the last three decades, the area has developed into an attractive and quiet neighborhood with beautiful mature trees and friendly people.

One of the most desirable features of the neighborhood are the facilities owned by the Homeowners’ Association. The facilities consist of a clubhouse, swimming pool, and two tennis courts. Annual dues paid by the homeowners fund the maintenance, grounds keeping, and personnel to run the facilities. MPS employs a year-round executive secretary to see to the day to day operation of the association. A full time pool manager is employed during pool season to run the 278,000 gallon heated pool that is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day each year. Homeowners, as well as non-residents, can rent the clubhouse and pool for private events. Homeowners enjoy a discounted rental rate.

Melonie Park South lies within South Loop 289, Memphis Avenue, 82nd Street, and Indiana Avenue (Map). Bill Miller Park and Playa Lake adjoin the clubhouse facilities on the north side of the neighborhood along South Loop 289. The city-owned park has numerous trees and acres of grass with a well lighted playground, basketball court, and picnic area. With easy access to the Loop and prestigious Kingsgate shopping center, the neighborhood is in a prime location. The South Plains Mall, which serves Lubbock and the south plains, is just a short drive from MPS. Prominent residential areas and shopping centers surround the neighborhood.
